I still have the worn blue Dresden Plate quilt sewn by my Grandmother Olina, and the red and green Christmas Star bedspread pieced by my Grandmother Bertha, and finished by my mother Dorothy. As a child I marveled at how their meticulous stitches combined disparate scraps of various shapes and colors to create something so beautiful and useful.

These strong women took cast-offs and reimagined and refashioned them into a greater whole of utility, purpose and meaning. Affected by their resourcefulness, devotion and skill, over time I felt compelled to develop a method to piece together the elements of their creative legacy in my own distinct way.
